MAVIR has been granted full membership of the TSO Security Cooperation

  •  Hungarian Transmission System Operator (TSO) takes a big step forward after having started as an observer in   2009
  •  Enhanced cooperation to offer maximum security of power supply
  •  Full access to all TSC services as soon as possible (mainly opera-tional planning, forecasting and congestion    assessment)

Hungary’s TSO, MAVIR Hungarian Independent Transmission Operator Company Ltd. has now been accepted as a full member into the trans-national Transmission System Operator Security Cooperation (TSC). MAVIR is the 13th TSC member and of high importance for the European grid stability, especially because of its strong linking with the south-eastern European countries.

The Hungarian transmission system consists of 750, 400 and 220 kV transmission lines (ca. 4,635 km overall length) and is connected with six neighbouring countries (Austria and Croatia having TSC member TSOs, additionally Serbia, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine). The majority owner of MAVIR’s shares is MVM Hungarian Electricity Ltd., owned by the Hungarian state.

“MAVIR’s full membership reflects the importance of cross-border coor-dination and the high value of our services provided by our new TSC TSOs – Joint Office”, says Alexander Wirth, TSC’s Operational Manager. The TSC TSOs – Joint Office in Munich, Germany is the place of work for 17 experts from the participating TSOs to perform their 24/7 services so as to support the TSC TSOs’ operations and to improve the security of operation and supply. Their key tasks are to moderate the discussions and daily teleconferences of the participating TSOs, support continuous quality management and improvement, to maintain stable operation of the common operational planning tools and to provide input for the operational planning and common security analyses performed by the TSOs. In order to fulfil the TSC mission grid data from all participating TSOs are collected, automatically merged together with data from the remaining continental European TSOs into one European Common Grid Model, which is the basis for the network security analyses.

TSO Security Cooperation
The Transmission System Operator Security Cooperation (TSC) was launched in December 2008 as an initiative of equal partners with a decentralized approach to foster regional European cooperation for system security in the countries concerned and in the whole of Europe. Its members next to MAVIR (Hungary) are 50Hertz, Amprion (both Ger-many), APG (Austria), ČEPS (Czech Republic), ELES (Slovenia), Ener-ginet.dk (Denmark), HOPS (Croatia), PSE (Poland), swissgrid (Switzer-land), TenneT TSO (Germany), TenneT TSO (The Netherlands) and TransnetBW (Germany).
The involved TSOs set up a permanent TSO Security Panel (group of security experts), new cooperation tools for control centres and a common IT platform CTDS for data exchange and performing common n-1 security assessments. TSC TSOs’ main goal is to further enhance operational cooperation amongst TSOs in order to ensure keeping a high level of overall system security in the European electricity grid. TSC TSOs are open to the participation of further TSOs.
